The Great Gatsby-Book Review

The Great Gatsby-Book Review

‘The Great Gatsby’ is a classical novel by the author F. Scott Fitzgerald  that was released in 1925. By reading this book, you can learn great lessons about love, true friendship and how  money is not everything in the world. We will look at why you should read the book and its main characteristics.

The Story

The book is set in the USA during the 20’s and tells the story of the businessman Gatsby. The Story is told from the perspective of Nick Carraway who works as a bond broker in New York. He lives next to the rich businessman Jay Gatsby and his big mansion, while he himself lives in a poor apartment. The story follows Nick on his journey about discovering more about Gatsby. We also meet Daisy Buchanan and her husband Tom Buchanan. Further on Gatsby reveals that he loved Daisy before she was married and before he had to go to war. The rest of the book revolves around the love story between Gatsby and Daisy. We also find out more about Gatsby’s past until a plot twist sets an end to the story.

Main takeaways from ‘The Great Gatsby’

As already mentioned you can learn great lessons about love, true friendship and the importance of money. Because ‘The Great Gatsby’ is set in the 20’s, it is a short description of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The topics of the book are wealth, glamour, the side effects of these two, organized crimes and corruption.

Gatsby’s story can be somewhat inspirational but not because of his success but mostly because of his mistakes. He makes the mistake of trying to revive the past because he wants Daisy to love him again. All his effort goes into this dream of his. And this turns out to be a big mistake.

Through the perspective of Nick Carraway we find out what real friendship is. Gatsby, who is wealthy, hosts many big parties and lives a luxurious lifestyle should have many friends, right? Well, it turns out that that’s not right. We find out that the many guests Gatsby had, were only interested in the luxury and money he had. Real friendship is when someone who really wants to be your friend and be there for you no matter how much money  you have. Trust me when you read the book, you will get the message.

Writing Style

Because of his age, the book is not written in the modern language. For Beginner Readers it could be hard to read because it tells its story slow even though the book is not really long. But Fitzgerald has a beautiful way of words and you can find many quotes that just sound so good, mostly to the end of the book. So you need to be patient and not give up because it really pays off.

Conclusion

I highly recommend the book not only because it is considered a very important book  but it just has these important lessons about love, friendship and money. You can have a good read and really enjoy this book.
