How to break Bad Habits

Everyone has bad habits. It’s important that we work on them. Our life is too precious to live with bad habits. But there are many useful tips to break bad habits. Check this article out to start your new me.

1.Start small

If you want to break bad habits than you shouldn’t overwhelm yourself.

Start by giving up small things.

For example if you want to change your diet:

  • start by giving up candy
  • after 2 weeks you start to give up drinking sugary drinks
  • slowly progressing after that

If you give up thing after think, you can then slowly break down the bad habit.

2. Identifying yourself

If you start identifying yourself with your behaviour, you can achieve better results.

What does this mean: If you are a vegetarian then not eating meat is part of who you are.

If you are a fit person then going to the gym regularly is part of who you are. 

It’s not hard for you to not do something if it does not match with your personality.

So imagine how you want to see yourself, free from all bad habits.

The way how we see ourselves can drastically change our behaviour.

3. Set extreme goals

The big reason why diets fail, is because people set themselves temporary goals.

People stick to a diet for a few months and then proceed to eat bad again.

That way they fall back.

You need to set yourself permanent goals.

Give up smoking for the rest of your life.

4. Replace bad habits

You need to find out when your bad habits get triggered.

For example then you bite your nails, look why you do it.

Are you nervous or bored ?

If you are bored then try to be aware every time you bite your nails.

Then your habit gets triggered, you do something else instead like rubbing your hands or something like that.

That way you replace a bad habit with another habit.

Start adding good habits for better results.

5.Ask for help

You don’t have to do this alone.

Ask your friends or family, to help you with your habits.

Together you can encourage each other and break the bad habits.

6. Cut out triggers

If you do not want to fall back then you should eliminate triggers.

Our habits get triggered by certain images, smells or anything else.

Find out what triggers your habit and avoid it.


It’s important that you start acting how you see yourself.

If you are a non-smoker then smoking isn’t part of your personality.

Always keep your goal in mind.

That it’s worth struggling for.

That it’s worth fighting for.
